Dream #98

Dream #98

I will never forget the first time I met Mingma Sherpa. She was a 10 year old girl with zero confidence in herself. She could barely speak English, her clothes were dirty, and she had no idea what she wanted to do with her future.

Since those days, after the earthquake, she has been one of the children I have been more close with. I have always spoke to her a lot about her dreams, fears, and most important of all, her education.

Unfortunately, her parents have never been able to help, so she was relying 100% in Dreams of Kathmandu to proceed with her studies. And that’s exactly what we did: for the last 10 years we have supported all her expenses of clothes, school fees and materials.

Now, in 2025, she has completed 12th grade, and she asked herself the same question that many young Nepalese do: should I stay in Nepal to do my university studies or should I go abroad?

Due to the lack of professional opportunities, everyday hundreds of Nepalese youngsters migrate to other countries in search for better life conditions. This is sad because in the end of the day, this is probably the most skilled and prepared generation Nepal has ever produced.

I spoke many times with Mingma about this subject, and in the end she decided to go and study in South Korea. She has some relatives there and her plan is to study and work at the same time.

We told her that we would support this plan with some expenses of the application process like the IELTS exam (350€), and also the plan ticket (500€). To finance this dream we used a donation made last year by Vitor Pereira! Thank you much Vitor for helping Mingmar and for believing in our project! Thanks to you, Mingmar can dream!
