Dream #22
Dream #22
Luis and Andreia contacted us some months ago. They are a young couple from Portugal and they were interested in getting involved in the projects of Dreams of Kathmandu by having a volunteer experience in Nepal.
After some e-mails, conference calls and constructive discussions it was established that they would spend 10 days in Sharadas Shelter Center with the goal of developing children's skills and help in all that could be needed in the house.
The experience was a big success and we know that their presence, and the activities they did had a huge impact in the children's mentality. And above all the 15 children of Sharadas Shelter gain 2 new friends for life!!
We are also very proud to announce that Luis and Andreia managed to fundraise 1230 € for the children. Together we decided to apply this fund in groceries for one year!! Bravo Luis and Andreia!! Bravo for making a difference!! Bravo for making dreams happen!!
And thank you… thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Read here their own words about this experience:
" We stayed ten days in Sharada's Shelter for Children implementing activities with the goal to develop social and emotional skills of the children (e.g. self-esteem; emotional intelligence), as well as to mutual share/learn experiences about culture, art and geography. We also wanted to create different moments for them, where we could share joy together.
When we arrived, it was suggested we could also use our expertise in the children's school. So we decided to share with the teachers non-formal education methodologies so they can implement the same kind of activities with all the students, making it more sustainable.
Although we successfully did all this, we probably received more from all the people we met, than we gave. During this time, we have: learned how happiness can be found in simple and authentic moments, rather than on things; about culture and different ways of living; about the nepali education system (and it was a good surprise to see they care about 'educating for being', instead of just 'educating for knowing'); and experienced living together in community in the most kind way.
Finally, it was a wonderful lifetime experience and we are truly thankful for having this opportunity and for everyone's kindness throughout our beautiful journey. We hope we can stay involved with the children to promote long-lasting impacts and continuously contribute to their future."
