Dream #14

Dream #14
Sharadas Shelter for Children is run by Milan and Sharadas, husband and wife, and it is located in Kathmandu, Lalitpur district.
This is a magical place where 15 children live. We call it a magical place, because what Milan and Sharadas do here can only be called magic. They take care of 13 children that they adopted as their children plus their own 2 kids.

Those 13 children were orphans, victims of abuse or children found performing forced labour.
According to the Nepal Government’s Central Bureau of Statistics, there are 11,5 million children in the country, from which 2,6 million work in restaurants, brick factories, stone chipping, carpet or coal industry. It’s a dark picture. Nepal is failing in providing their children with basic education, health and welfare.
Everyday these 15 children wake up and go to school. They have very strict rules regarding hygiene, waking times, cleaning the room and study. Sharadas cooks breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. You still don’t think this is magic? What if we tell you they do this with an average of 70 dollars per children per month? We are talking about clothes, school uniform, health and food. In our opinion, it’s just INCREDIBLE.
The buiding they currently live is being rented. The original one was damaged to the point it was declared unsafe to inhabit on the day of the earthquake that struck Nepal in April 2015. And right now, this is the biggest challenge of Sharadas Shelter Center: to build a new home for their children. Construction is already under way because Milan is a brave man and asked for a loan. We visited the construction site and it’s a really nice project. Located close the Thaiba district on a green area, far from traffic and pollution.

But the loan was not enough and construction has stoppped. There are still 7000 USD, around 6200 EUR missing.
Today in Dreams of Kathmandu, we plan to help Milan and Sharadas in their dream of building a new home for their children.
Matt Norley, 25, is half english and half portuguese. He has worked over 2 years in the impact investment space in Nepal, mainly in the development of renewable energy projects across the country. But the most important thing about Matt, is his passion for Nepal and its people. Every time we meet him we talk about new ideas on how to help, how to make a diference and most of all how can we manage social work in a sustainable way and give these children a complete education. For us, Pedro and Ghazal, it is always a big pleasure to meet him and share new ideas.

Today we have the biggest pleasure to announce that Matt has donated 1.000 USD, or 880€ to the new house of the 15 children of Sharadas Shelter Center! Thank you so much Matt for your commitment and for making dreams happening.
