Dream #66
Dream #66
A few weeks
ago (see Dream #60), I spoke to you here about a project that was not going
well in Nepal, and we had to cut funding.
But at the
time I also mentioned that I would find a way to continue helping the children
involved in that project and today I come here to talk to you about one of
those kids: David Ghalan, a 14-year-old Nepalese boy.
There is a
sadness in David's eyes.
David's
father, an alcoholic, abandoned him several years ago after his mother's death.
Recently this father came to visit him at his new house, where my friend Madan
Poudeyal from Rainbow Volunteer Club, is his "new" father and
guardian. He only stayed for two hours and disappeared again. He was probably
looking for some money for the cup of the day. He didn't come back anymore.
When we
found David 6 years ago, he was washing dishes in a restaurant 15 to 20 hours a
day. He slept on the floor and ate leftovers.
In relation
to his “real” family we found out that he had 4 more siblings. The verb is
"had" because the older brother killed one of his brothers in a fight…
These are
different lives and should make us reflect on how lucky we are.
And in the project
Dreams of Kathmandu, we are doing everything possible to change this situation
and others. Every child in the world deserves an opportunity to be happy.
Today David
is in a safe and healthy environment. And I come here to thank Ligia Coelho Dos
Santos, a Portuguese woman who made herself available to pay for the studies
and clothes for David this school year, in the amount of 560€.
Thank you
Ligia and thank you to everyone who continues to believe in this project. On our
side, we will always continue to make things happen on the ground with truth
and transparency.
