Dream #32
Dream #32
The lockdown situation in Nepal, due to the spread of the virus COVID-19, is a total disaster for a country that WAS and still IS recovering from the earthquake of April, 2015. With a population of 30 million people, there are "only" 1572 infected people and 8 deaths, so the numbers are not as bad as in other countries. The real tragedy is happening in the daily life of thousands of families that due to the lockdown are seeing their poverty situation getting even worst than before the virus settled in.
Schools are closed and there is no perspective when they are gonna open. Kids can not go to school and they have to stay home. Usually schools provide one or two meals per day to children, this is now a heavy burden for the parents.
With the markets closed, people cannot sell their crops, vegetables or dairy products as they usually did. Nepal is mainly a rural country with an economy very dependent in agriculture.
Tourism and trekking, one of the main sources of income for the country are totally closed. There is no permission for tourists to come in Nepal and many operators are going bankrupt. April and May are the high season months for tourism in Nepal and this year the government has made a big investment in a campaign called Nepal 2020 to bring more people from abroad. The results of this effort are now lost.
And many many people are loosing their jobs and salaries. Soon they will not be able to pay their rents and other commitments.
In Dreams of Kathmandu we are worried about this situation. We are worried about our friends in Nepal. So, last week we transferred some funds to support some of the projects we are involved in: families from Chapagaon, Camp Hope, Sharadas Shelter and Thaiba Shelter.
Basically, with the aid of our local friends and partners, Edward Turner and Matt Norley, from Operation Nepali Children, we gave a total 750€, or 98.000 Ruppes, so that these families could afford their expenses in these hard times, especially in terms of food. With 750€ we estimate to be able to help around 30 people during 2-3 weeks. It's just incredible what can be done with such a low amount in Nepal!!
For this dream, we are using the funds from the fundraising campaign we did last Christmas in the initiative Giving Tuesday. At that time we were able to collect 2395€. From this we already used 300€ for Dream #29 and now 750€ for Dream #32. So, we still have a total of 1345€ from this source that we will use in the future.
Please help us make more dreams come true in Kathmandu, Nepal.
We are truly committed in continue helping this country that we love with all our hearts.
