Dream #31
Dream #31
Tej and Shanti are an amazing Nepalese couple that are responsible for a total of eight children, one of them their own son. Some of these children don't have a family and some were victim of child abuse or labour. But in the house of Tej and Shanti, these kids are happy and because of that we are happy too. For that reason we, Pedro and Ghazal, keep getting involved and we are trying to give these children a better future.
The work that we do in Nepal it's not always a fairy tale. It's not always made of children smiling and hugs. Nepal is such a poor country, that people get used to the help and donations from outside. When they need something they just ask it from a NGO or other organizations that are established in the country. But in Dreams of Kathmandu, we refuse to give just for the sake of it. We refuse to give just to take nice pictures. We want to know that the funds are being well applied, and we want to know that there is a plan for the long term. A goal to be achieved in order to help the children's future.
Many times we have to be strict and have serious conversations with the people in charge of the projects we support. The message is very clear: all the funds from donations must go directly to the children. And also that they must set an exemple for the children. They must work hard and be responsible. This is what happened two years ago with Tej and Shanti. They were totally relying in the help of others and they had many expenses with the children in the house. So, we tried to make a plan with them in order to really make a difference for their future. First of all we told Tej that he needed to find a job, because he needed to bring income to the house. And also they needed to change house, because the rent was too high.
Today we are so proud that Tej found a job as a teacher, and they also live in a house more close to the center of Kathmandu and with a better rent. Tej is a very intelligent man and he speaks very good English, we couldn't be more proud of him. This is why we continue to help him, his wife Shanti and the children. Because they are committed.
For a long time Tej has been talking about his means of transport. That he needs to go shopping groceries for the house, he needs to go to work and sometimes it's necessary to take the children to the hospital. The days are long in Kathmandu and traffic is awful. So he suggested to have a motorbike to help with the daily routines.
The total cost of the motorbike was 115.000 Nepalese Rupees, something close to 1.000€.
The biggest responsible for making this dream happening was Matt Norley.
Matt is one of the biggest supporters of Dreams of Kathmandu. He is a generous young man with a heart of gold, always ready to help Nepal. He conducted all the purchase process and made sure that in the future Tej would have funds for gas and insurance. Matt donated almost half of the motorbike, 55.000 NPR, or 460€. Tej paid 36.000 NPR from his own pocket.
Thank you Matt.
The other donator for this project was Isabel Victoria. Isabel is a portuguese lady that we met 5 years ago, when the earthquake of Nepal happened and she is ALWAYS there for us. In the good and the bad moments and every time we do a fundraise. I told her about this dream and she immediately said yes and donated 24.000 NPR, or 200€.
Thank you Isabel.
And this is how we made another dream come true!! With work, transparency and by knowing the reality of the people that we are helping. If you also wanna get involved please contact us in pedro_queiros@hotmail.com or ghazalvaziri@gmail.com. There are still many dreams to be achieved and we need all the help we can get.
