Dream #24
Dream #24
Sonam Sherpa is one of our best friends in Nepal. He
was one of the 350 people that lived in Camp Hope, Kathmandu.
In the earthquake day, 25th April 2015, his house in
the village of Yarmasing got destroyed. We visited the place and we took these pictures...
It was a tragic situation. Sonam lost the house that
he was building for his family with the savings of many years working in Dubai.
So Sonam had to start again from zero...
Migration is one of the most common things in Nepal.
The population goes to other countries in search for better life conditions,
far from their families, to work in restaurants, hotels or construction. It’s a
very hard life especially if you don’t have any local support.
Can you imagine yourself, arriving in a foreign county
not knowing the language and with little money in your pocket? This is a drama
that many people face in the world today... and sometimes they stay years
without going back home and seeing their loved ones...
But Sonam had a different luck.
Filipe Pereira Arouca is a Portuguese guy and he has
also been a friend of Sonam since 4 years ago, when he came to Nepal to do
some volunteer work.
So, approximately one year ago, when Sonam went to
Portugal to try his luck, Filipe and his wife, Cristiana Galante, gave Sonam an
opportunity. In the middle of their busy lives, they found time and space to
help Sonam with his documents, adaptation, professional life and
accommodation.
Filipe and Cristiana were true angels, not everybody
has this kind of attitude. Thank you guys for your example. Thank you guys, for
giving your hand to someone in need.
The role of our project in this situation, Dreams of
Kathmandu, is not very relevant, since Filipe and Cristiana did all the work.
But we have decided to contribute with 1200€ for Sonam house rent, or in other
words, 100€ per month.
This fund was donated by Fundação Vox Populi. A
Portuguese organization dedicated to change mentalities in the area of
education. Check out their website at www.fvp.pt. They are working very close with our project and
they are going to support more Dreams!! Thank you so much!!
If you also wanna get involved contact us in pedro_queiros@hotmail.com or ghazalvaziri@gmail.com. Our projects are growing, and we need as
many help as we can get!
You are true heroes guys. Keep the pot boiling. Lots of love! 🙏
